Ph.D. Students

Toby Viet Nguyen
Toby completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine. His research interest is to apply computational modeling to cardiovascular medicine, incorporating computational fluid dynamics into current clinical practices to create more holistic models of patients. Outside of research, Toby enjoys doing calligraphy, volunteering for non-profit organizations, and a good night of karaoke.

Mehul Bakshi
Mehul earned his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 2023. Prior to joining the ComBiNE Fluid Dynamics Lab, he worked at IISc Bangalore, where he contributed to research in mesh adaptation. His interests lie in developing computational and machine-learning models to advance flow simulations. Outside the lab, Mehul enjoys playing lawn tennis and unwinding with music.

Akshita Sahni (co-advised with L.P. Dasi)
Akshita holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado Boulder and a B.Tech in ME from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Before her PhD, she worked at Boston Children’s Hospital on blood flow predictions to support pre-surgical planning for children with rare heart diseases. She is interested in cardiovascular biomechanics modeling for personalized care, by using multi-fidelity physics-informed models for a real-time analysis. In her free time, she enjoys visiting planetariums, exploring nature, cooking, and dancing.
